Ten years ago Santa Monica Studio opened a new page in the history of the video game, releasing the legendary God of War – first part of the adventure of Kratos. The ghost of Sparta, tearing his stomachs with sharp, like a razor, blades of chaos, swept over Hellas … seven times.

In 2005, a rather closed ancient Greek world appeared before us with his, as they say, atmosphere. Trains, intrigues, murders, blood -impression and even devouring their own children flourished here. All the same can be seen in the canonical works of that era, because such a bloody layer of worldview could not but affect art.
For example, in the “Iliad” of Homer, the word “anger” in all its word forms is found so many times that a little more, and there would be two hundred of them. It was the Greeks who came up with the tragedy with dissected and Deus-ex-machines. Impressive stories haunted not only to contemporaries – they were inspired by the era of classicism, and romance, and realists, which were replaced by Santa Monica and Ready At Dawn.

The first part reached PS2 and immediately climbed the first lines of all the hit parades. From it we learn about how the god of war punished Kratos for his vanity. But the ghost of Sparta was not a bast – he surpassed the cruelty of Ares himself and replaced him as the deity of the war.
Two years later, the first part followed God of War 2, even more epic and saturated. The former military leader helps relatives in battles, for which he receives Ban from Zeus. Therefore, Kratos again goes to the war trail – this time to kill Zeus. Athena suddenly helps him in this. By the way, she is by no means so kind that she wants to seem.
Then our interest fueled a 2D game for mobile platforms God of War: Betrayal. Kratos was falsely accused of a treacherous murder. No need to explain how he reacted to this. The fifth in the chronology of events, it became the only case when the series changed Sony.
IN Betrayal It was very exciting to cut in between pairs at the university, and a year later, Ready At Dawn, naturally released the first game about the ghost of Sparta on PSP. The last in order, but the first in the chronology of events on the PS3 platform was God of War: Ascension, in which Kratos decides to take revenge on Ares. By the way, another merit of this game is that the first multiplayer in the history of Sparta appeared in it.
Then they promised us a film adaptation of Kratos adventures. In 2013, the Internet smoked a little from rumors about the continuation of the cult game – God of War: Redemption , But since then no official announcements have followed. Two years have passed, a new generation of consoles came to the forefront, and I really want to say: “Guys, it's time to show the trailer for the new part. Let it be at least a restart, even a sequel of sequels, even a prequel for prequels or any other terrible word, but we need more Kratos!"

It is difficult to be a god

But at the same time, there are more difficult tasks when you have to fall from the spinning vertebrae into the bloody slurry, move this stupid cage a hundred times, trying to avoid sharp copies that rise from under the ground. Vlad Tepes would approve. And all this is imposed on a coherent story worked out from and to a stunning sound path. Behind Kratos there are demiurges from Sony, but the Spartan as we know and love him, would not be, if not for a happy chance. Gam -designer David Jaffa, one of the “fathers” of Kratos, dreamed of becoming a director, but his talents did not appreciate his film school. But bloodthirsty murders in them are organically combined with a subtle spiritual organization of heroes – maximalists who see the world exclusively monochrome. Despite the strict orientation of the series, the developers clearly demonstrate to us how Kratos suffers from the loss of brother, wife, daughter, as if abscesses revealing more and more reasons for his actions.

Here Kratos is powerful like a bull, then it is dumped from Olympus, and he, gaining strength, climbs upstairs to take revenge … The plot repetitions became a kind of feature of the game. Series God of War became the new encyclopedia of ancient Greek mythology – an encyclopedia, in which the legends of the past and the present were mixed.
